Signal and Noise

I make, play and sometimes write about music. These days you can usually catch me at Free Rotation but I’ve DJed around the world at events including Wax Treatment (Berlin), Sofrito (Paris / London) and Rototom Sunsplash (Italy).

In 2013 under the name Fade 2 I released “Interzone Dub”, a sound system oriented set of digital steppas with vocals from artists associated with Ras Kush’s New York-based Black Redemption label.

In 2026 under the name Remy Solar I released “Heavy Terrain” on the Siren Selector imprint, a rather different sounding hardware-based album. Manchester’s celebrated Piccadilly Records called it “by turns lush, textured, menacing and plaintive”. Noel Gardner in the Quietus was kind enough to feature it in his April New Weird Britain column, saying

if the niceties of a Remy Solar production can be boxed into one era, it’s that 90s UK dub moment where producers were digitising their studios while still paying audible respect to the originators (but also maybe catching some influence from rave culture). Heavy Terrain is ambient, but more in the way Augustus Pablo was; less dub-orthodox are the snaky layers of droning electronics that permeate most of these nine tracks. I love how clicks, cuts and hisses clash on ‘Empty City’, the bits in ‘Dakhla’ where a wall of distortion rises like the sun, and the infinitely spacious echo of ‘Heavy Terrain (Pt. 2)’: one of my favourite releases of 2026 so far.
